To improve shipping conditions in the Black Sea, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkiye signed a memorandum to establish a Black Sea Mine Countermeasures Task Group (MCM BLACK SEA) to ensure the safety of maritime traffic and combat the threat of sea mines, the Bulgarian Navy said on Friday.
The second activation of MCM BLACK SEA began in the port of Burgas on September 19, 2024.
For the duration of the activation, MCM BLACK SEA will consist of 4 ships:
- Gungor Durmus Auxiliary Ship A-574, of the Navy of the Republic of Turkiye, on board of which the floating headquarters of the operation will be deployed;
- Struma Minesweeper M- 33, Tripartite Class, of the Bulgarian Navy;
- Axente Base Minesweeper M- 30, Musca Class, of the Romanian Navy;
- Akcay Mine Hunter M-270, Aydin Class of the Navy, of the Republic of Turkiye.
