Unemployment in Bulgaria in July 2024 was 4%, stable compared with June 2024 and lower than in July 2023, when it stood at 4.6%, the statistical office of the European Union (Eurostat) reported on Friday.

Bulgaria had 121,000 unemployed people in July 2024, about as many as in June 2024 and considerably fewer than in July 2023, when the number of the jobless was 138,000.

Unemployment in the EU in July 2024 was 6%, unchanged from June 2024 and from July 2023, Eurostat said. In the euro area, the July 2024 level was 6.4%, compared with 6.5% in June 2024 and 6.6% in July 2023.

Youth unemployment

In July 2024, youth unemployment in Bulgaria (among people under 25) stood at 11.5%, stable from June 2024, and considerably lower than in July 2023, when it was 13.5%. In absolute terms, there were 13,000 unemployed young people in Bulgaria in July 2024 and June 2024, and 16,000 in July 2023, Eurostat said.

Youth unemployment in the EU in July 2024 was 14.5%, compared with 14.6% in June 2024. The figures for the euro area were, respectively, 14.2% and 14.4%.
