Tsvetelina Penkova, a nominee for the position of European Commissioner from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), met with caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, the BSP press service said here on Thursday.
Penkova, President of the European Energy Forum and the First Vice-Chair of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy in the European Parliament, engaged in a discussion with the Prime Minister about pivotal issues concerning the future of the Bulgarian energy sector within the European context.
Energy was central in the talks, with Penkova advocating for Bulgaria to secure this portfolio in the upcoming European Commission. She substantiated her position with facts, data, and analyses, underscoring the sector's significance for Bulgaria and its potential for growth in alignment with European objectives.
Glavchev, upon reviewing Penkova's proposals, agreed on the strategic significance of the energy sector for Bulgaria. He stressed that the country needs to take an active part in shaping European energy policy and said the government is ready to support efforts to get better deals in future European talks.
The meeting showed that Bulgarian institutions are committed to working together to improve Bulgaria's position in the new European Commission, with energy still remaining a top priority.
