The There Is Such a People (TISP) party on Tuesday proposed former deputy foreign minister Velislava Petrova for European commissioner. Unveiling the nomination, TISP's Stanislav Balabanov told a briefing at the National Assembly that the candidate should have a strong expert profile.

According to the party, Bulgaria is likely to keep its present portfolio in the European Commission, which is Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. Since 2023, the portfolio has been held by Iliana Ivanova.

Petrova is Chief Program Officer at the Brussels-based International Center for Future Generations, Balabanov said.

Asked whether TISP trusts the second Glavchev caretaker cabinet and the new interior minister to organize the October elections, Balabanov said that the latest constitutional changes put the power in the hands of such people as GERB leader Boyko Borissov and Movement for Rights and Freedoms floor leader Delyan Peevski. "Whether Kalin Stoyanov or Atanas Ilkov is interior minister, we should obey the Constitution, good or bad. In the 51st Parliament, TISP will do everything to correct these mistakes and correct the Constitution in order to placate the nation and end the speculations once and for all, because the marionettes in the executive government are a strong factor at present," Balabanov said.
