The St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia ranks between 661-670 in the QS World University Rankings 2025, published on June 4, 2024. Bulgaria's oldest university has been named in the rankings since 2013, the institution says on its website.

In the QS World University Rankings 2024, published in 2023, the University of Sofia placed between 741-750.

It is the only Bulgarian university named in these rankings, and is among the top 12% of the universities included in them. It is also among the top 50% of the world's best 1,503 universities.

A total of 5,663 universities bid for inclusion and were assessed for the 2025 edition of the rankings, which was twice the number of bids for the previous edition. Those admitted to the rankings number 1,503.

For the latest edition, universities were assessed according to nine criteria: academic reputation, citations per faculty, employer reputation, employment outcomes, faculty student ratio, international student ratio, international faculty ratio, international research network, and sustainability.

The University of Sofia is most successful in employment outcomes and international research network.
