Sofia, November 21 (BTA) - The second group of the 23rd
Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition is leaving for Antarctica Friday
evening. Their route is Sofia - Rome - Buenos Aires - Rio
Gallegos - Punta Arenas, said the expedition leader, Prof.
Hristo Pimpirev.
The group consists of Assoc. Prof. Dimo Dimov, a geologist;
Ganka Pavlova, an icon painter; Dimiter Katsarov, Ivan
Konstantinov and Luchezar Glavinov, builders; and Khalzan
Purevdagva, a Mongolian meteorologist.
The group will board the Spanish Navy ship "Hesperides" for the
voyage from Punta Arenas to the Bulgarian St Kliment Ohridski
Base on Livingston Island (South Shetland Islands).
The group carries ten reproductions of paintings by Bulgarian
classics, donated by the National Art Gallery, which will be
exhibited at a branch of the gallery that will open in the base.
The base commander Yordan Yordanov reported that the first group
of the Bulgarian expedition is in the area of Livingston Island
on board the Chilean icebreaker "Aquiles", but landing has been
postponed for two days due to bad weather. SN/LG
