Sofia - A check by the Commission on State Agency for National Security (SANS) Oversight has not confirmed an alert by the Order, Lawfulness, Justice party (OLJ) about law breaches and abuse of power at SANS, Commission Chairman Volen Siderov said. Siderov specified that the OLJ allegations about appointment of staff under the incumbent SANS leadership are not true.

Sofia - The prosecuting magistracy has instituted once again pretrial proceedings over disclosure of classified information which is state secret, sources in the prosecution told BTA. The proceedings are against an unknown perpetrator but the question is about a report submitted to the prosecuting magistracy by Coalition for Bulgaria claiming that Finance Minister Simeon Djankov had disclosed a document signed between the National Bank of Bulgaria and the previous government.

Sofia - "The 2011 national budget framework is unrealistic in this form," The Blue Coalition Co-chairman Martin Dimitrov said after meeting with trade union leaders in Parliament on Thursday. The sides agreed on the need to form a working group of representatives of parliamentary parties, trade unions, the business community and the executive branch.

Sofia - For lack of quorum, the parliamentary conflict of interest committee failed to consider a major conflict of interest case involving MP and Movement for Rights and Freedoms leader Ahmed Dogan. An extraordinary meeting was scheduled for Friday on the request of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, to deal with the matter, said committee chairman Dimo Gyaourov. He added that the Prime Minister had dismissed suspicions of a deal between the ruling GERB and MRF over the case. Dogan is suspected of being involved in a conflict of interest when he received 1.99 million leva, or 1 million euro, in fees as a consultant for four hydro-energy projects in 2008.

Sofia - Bulgaria and Romania have taken joint action to bring back members of their Roma communities in France following an order by French President Nicolas Sarkozy to expel illegal Roma immigrants "for reasons of public order," Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov told a news conference at the Council of Ministers.

Sofia - Bulgaria is among the countries to benefit from a new financial mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) targetting the new EU member states plus Portugal, Greece and Spain. An agreement about the new financial contributions between EEA countries Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland, on the one side, and the EU on the other, was signed on Wednesday, 28 July, reported the Norwegian Embassy in Sofia.

Sofia - The length of contributory service required for retirement will be increased by one year as from January 1, 2011, by another one a year later and by one more in 2013, Bulgarian Labour and Social Policy Minister Totyu Mladenov told journalists in Parliament on Thursday. He specified that the retirement age will remain unchanged for the time being.

Sofia - The spreading of Bulgarian language and culture across the world should be given priority in the new school education bill, Boyan Koulov, Chairman of the Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad (ABSA), said at a conference on the problems of Bulgarian schools abroad on Thursday. The forum is held for a fifth time and is organized by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Science, the State Agency of Expatriate Bulgarians and ABSA.

Sofia - Several hundred representatives of Muslim boards of trustees from all over Bulgaria protested Thursday in front of the National Assembly against the decision of the Supreme Court of Cassation to reinstate Nedim Gendjev as Chairman of the Supreme Muslim Council. After years of referring the matter to courts of all instances Gendjev was finally reinstated on May 18.

Sofia - Korean dancers won the gold medals at the 24th edition of the International Ballet Competition in Varna (on the Black Sea). The laureates also include two participants from China and one each from Armenia and Finland. The winners were chosen among 113 dancers from 32 countries. The Grand Prix was not awarded.

Sofia - It is most important to have real prevention of human trafficking with the objective of labour exploitation, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov told journalists at the Council of Ministers. This is one of the challenges before EU countries, he added. Thursday saw the launch of a campaign for the prevention of human trafficking with the objective of labour exploitation. It is organized by the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, which is chaired by Tsvetanov.

Sofia - Some 200 teachers teach in 136 Bulgarian schools abroad, the Deputy Chairman of the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad Yordan Yanev told BTA. However, it is difficult to say how many the schools are exactly, as their number has been increasing constantly in recent years and their status is different. Three of them - in Budapest, Prague and Bratislava - are state schools. Part of the schools are attached to Bulgaria's embassies, others are actually weekend classes and there are also such that operate with the church communities.

Sofia - Meeting Wednesday on their initiative, the six nationally representative employer organizations and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov reached agreement that social insurance contributions will not be increased until the end of 2012 and that only the concealment of contributions will be criminalized and not their non-payment. Labour and Social Policy Minister Totyu Mladenov also took part in the meeting.
