The Romanian Foreign Ministry warned of heavy traffic at the Ruse-Giurgiu border crossing, as well as at the Kulata-Promachonas border crossing between Bulgaria and Greece. Due to the congestion at the border between Romania and Bulgaria at Ruse, long waits are inevitable, the Romanian Foreign Ministry told BTA on Saturday, adding that the average waiting time is between 50 and 80 minutes.

According to the calculations of representatives of the Embassy of Romania in Sofia and the Consulate General of Romania in Thessaloniki, who are in constant contact with the competent Bulgarian and Greek authorities, the waiting time between 12:00 and 15:00 could exceed three hours.

Officials recommend citizens to use all border crossings to Bulgaria or Greece and have sufficient fuel, water and food for emergency situations.

Authorities recommend preparing in advance the exact amount of the bridge toll of EUR 2 or BGN 4, thus the waiting time for processing and issuing receipts or invoices can be considerably shortened.

It is recommended that international freight or passenger transport companies transiting through Bulgarian territory during this period take appropriate measures to organise travel routes and establish drivers' working schedules, bearing in mind that at certain times waiting times at border crossings are considerably extended.
