site.btaNGOs Urge Broader Civic Participation in Green Transition Measures Planning
"The green transition is necessary because of climate change, but it must happen in a manner affordable to all parties concerned, and citizens and citizen organizations need to be involved on a broader scale in planning the measures," said Radostina Slavkova, who coordinates energy and climate at the For the Earth Association.
Slavkova spoke here on Tuesday at Green Week 2023, a forum devoted to the green transition in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, organized by Dir.bg and 3E news with the media partnership of BTA.
The environmentalist added that her association wants to see the updated National Energy and Climate Plan covering mobility. She argued that a national bicycle plan should go into implementation.
Kristiyan Dimitrov, renewable energy campaigner in Greenpeace, pointed out that the green transition subject is not particularly popular with people. "The State has not tried hard enough to inform them," in his opinion. According to Dimitrov, it is crucial for Bulgaria to allow the implementation of energy sharing with less well-to-do people in renewable energy communities. Dimitrov noted that Greece and countries with far less sunshine produce electricity, including for heating, precisely by applying this mechanism.
