Conference on Green Transition in Central and Eastern Europe Starts Tuesday in Sofia

The three-day forum Green Week 2023, dedicated to the green transition in Central and Eastern Europe (energy connectivity, green finance and innovation) will start at 9 am on June 20 at the Sofia Event Center, the organizers dir.bg and 3E News announced on Monday. The transformation of economies, industries of the future, innovation and social expectations of European citizens will be among the highlights of the conference.

Representatives from Romania, Greece, Poland, Croatia, France, Portugal, the Republic of North Macedonia, Azerbaijan and Moldova will take part in the discussions.

The forum will be attended by President Rumen Radev, National Assembly Chair Rossen Zhelyazkov, European Commission (EC) Vice President Maros Sefcovic, European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice President Liliyana Pavlova and North Macedonia’s Agriculture Minister Ljupco Nikolovski, while EU Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira will participate through a video address. Speakers include Ivan Krastev, researcher at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna (IWM Vienna), and Harvard professor and co-author of The AI Republic and Understanding How the Future Unfolds Dr. Mark Esposito.

The first day of the conference will be attended by Economy Minister Bogdan Bogdanov, Environment Minister Julian Popov, Energy Minister President Radev,  MEP Tsvetelina Penkova, MEP Radan Kanev, EC’s Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Director General Charlina Vitcheva, EC’s Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion Director General Adriana Sukova, Energy Community Parliamentary Plenum 2023 Chairman Arben Pellumbi, Energy and Water Regulatory Commission Chair Ivan Ivanov, Commissioner's Office for Convergence and Reform Member Francisco Barroso Castro, EC’s Directorate General for Energy Deputy Director General Matthew Baldwin, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Hussein Husseinov, MOLDOVAGAZ CEO Vadim Cheban, and Institute of Energy for SE Europe Secretary General Costas Theofylaktos.

More than 130 panelists from 10 countries will participate in the forum.

Discussions will be thematically structured across the days of the conference, focusing on energy security and connectivity in the context of the European energy market, the future of baseload power, hydrogen and new climate technologies, financial investment in renewable energy and risk assessment, ESG policies and regulations, the industrial transition to low carbon, innovation, artificial intelligence and the technological revolution,; transport and green mobility, prices, food and food security, European Bauhaus.
